OOPS: I got a C.U.I.

Today I got to go on a fun field trip with K'Lynn's class to the zoo. I'll post some pic's and details later. But, I had a funny little mishap that I had to share! K'Lynn and I both get carsick, so I was armed with the Dramamine. Right before we left K'Lynn took 1 and I took 2. Fine, right? Well, I usually only take 1 Dramamine. I don't know what I was thinking by taking 2, but for whatever reason, even though this is still a normal dose, it was way too much for me.

We got up to the zoo, and I started feeling light headed like I do when my blood sugar is low, so I tried eating. Carbs didn't fix it, so I tried eating some protein. Neither worked and I still felt the same. A couple of minutes later, we were walking up the hill, and I noticed that my legs felt like rubber, and I was walking a little crooked (not super bad, but a little crooked nonetheless). My next thought was that I wanted to lay down right on the road, and go to sleep. I kept wondering why I couldn't shake this feeling, and what was wrong with me. Then, I was talking to K'Lynn's teacher, and I couldn't think well enough to complete my sentences. This is when I had a strong mental image of me taking 2 Dramamine, and I realized that I usually only take one: I had double dosed on Dramamine on the day that my job was to play Chaperone to 6 little fourth grade monkeys at the zoo! FANTASTIC!!!!

I didn't want K'Lynn's teacher to think I was acting strange, so I explained to him what I had done. He laughed about it. Then, I told K'Lynn that I hoped none of her friends or any other teachers thought that I seemed like I was on drugs. What a great first impression! The best part is our Stake President was also on the field trip with his daughter. K'Lynn's teacher is also in our stake, and said that he was going to go ask him if a temple recommend can be taken away for a CUI (chaperoning under the influence). It was a little embarrassing. But now, I think it's kind of funny!!! I bet the kids actually liked that version of me a little better than my normal high spirited type "A" self!!!

I get carsick/motion sick/sea sick too, but I try to avoid dramamine at all costs. Even one makes me so, so tired. We were on a company cruise last year and my dad and I took a dramamine before we went to bed (a 24 hour one), and we both pretty much just slept through the next day (luckily we were just at the beach), but it really sucked because I felt drugged the whole day!! I can't imagine being at the zoo in that condition!!

That would make me unconscious! Way to go for sticking with it and continuing to chaperon...even though you were "under the influence"

Oh no, how awful to feel that way on something like a field trip! I get really car sick too if I'm not right in the front seat. I learned way back when I was a kid though that my system cannot handle dramamine. Even 1 completely knocks me out. I can't even stay awake if I want to. Hey, now that I think about that, it might actually work better then a sleeping pill for me. Not that I'd be in a position to take a sleeping pill anytime soon. :)

Funny!!!! When I got home last night, I told my mom, and she said that happened to her once too! She took cough syrup that was a few years old, and felt the same way you did! That's wierd that it said you could take two, and it affected you like that. Call the 800 number!

I'm so glad to be over my carsick days... but I never knew you could overdose on Dramamine... that does not sound like fun at all!

Hey were you wearing a blue jacket that day at the zoo? Because Fox 13 was showing some of the water exhibits at the zoo that day, and I swear one of the moms there looked just like you! Hope it was a fun day despite being drugged (I might remember that trick for my next field trip... might make it a fun day indeed!)

That's hilarious! You're so funny. I take 1 of the 24 hour "less drowsy" dramanines and it doesn't make me tired at all. At least you were on the bus and didn't have to drive home after feeling that way!
