Remembering September 11th

I thought of doing a post on this topic yesterday, but I just wasn't feeling the full impact of what that day was all about, and I didn't want to seem disrespectful in my words by not giving all of the victims the credit that they deserved, even if only in the words on my blog.
But last night, I was pulling a late night study session, and I ran across 2 documentaries I had never seen before that really brought that day back to me.
The first show was about a big wig for one of the company's that was in the WTC. He had suspected that this building would be a prime target for terrorism, and had tried to get an emergency plan implemented specifically for this type of attack. When what he had envisioned actually occurred, he gave his own life to sit in the tower, and try to implement getting as many people out of the towers as possible.
The other movie focused on parts of the attack I had never thought of before. It was a collection of amateur home videos, cell phone and paramedic records from several different people from that day. Some of the people were from many of the apartment buildings that surrounded the WTC. As I watched exact images from that day, the sorrow really came back to me. I had never thought about people in all of the surrounding buildings that had to have been wondering what was next. I had forgotten about people, who, in desperation, jumped to their deaths when they had no other way to get out of the buildings. I watched people become physically ill after being hit with the massive clouds of dust from the collapse. I had never thought about those poor people not having access to water to clear their airways. I also cannot imagine being one of the ones who got out, and racing in terror down 71 flights of stairs, and the physical complications that could come as a result of this. I had just forgotten, and I think it was humbling and good to be reminded. To remember those who became human weapons in the name of terrorism. To remember the poor people of NYC who literally walked a war path that day. I can't imagine the terror. I think the best tribute we can give to those who lost their lives, is to live our life in such a manner that we stand for the opposite of what brought their life to an end, and to also be thankful for all the blessings we have in this free country.
